DAY 01: DISCOVERING THE CHARMS OF TARATA AND CANDARAVE
The day starts early, with a pickup from the hotel at 8:00 AM. We begin our journey towards the province of Tarata, a destination that combines spectacular landscapes with history and tradition.
After an hour's drive, we will arrive at the Mirador de la Apacheta, located at 3,500 m.a.s.l. This point offers a privileged view of the Andean valley and the terraces that are preserved in perfect condition. From here you can admire the majesty of the Yucamani and Tutupaca volcanoes and the imposing Cordillera del Barroso. In addition, we will explore the mysterious Marriage Stones, loaded with symbolism for the local culture.
We continue towards the historic Tarucachi Church, a colonial temple that stands out for its exquisite decoration made with natural dyes. This architectural jewel will transport us to the past, reminding us of the cultural richness of the region.
At noon, we will enjoy a delicious lunch in Tarata. This break will not only allow us to recover our energy, but also prepare us to explore the fascinating Santa María Inca Trail. Along the way, we will appreciate the impressive terraces that shape the cultural landscape of Tarata. We will also visit the Qala Qala Caves, a rocky outcrop considered sacred by the inhabitants of the area, full of history and spirituality.
Finally, we will arrive at Candarave, where you will have time to settle into your accommodation. Here we will enjoy a comforting dinner before resting, closing a day full of discoveries and connection with nature and local culture.
DAY 02: NATURAL WONDERS IN VILACOTA MAURE
The day begins at 7:00 AM, with a delicious breakfast to recharge our batteries. We soon begin our journey to the community of Calientes, an entry point to the extraordinary Vilacota Maure conservation area. During the journey, the volcanic landscapes and the unique flora of the region surround us. Among the most notable species we find the queñuales, yaretas and tolares, while the Andean fauna adds life to the journey.
We make a brief stop at Apacheta Yucamani, located at the foot of a majestic volcano, where the fresh air and the surroundings invite us to connect with nature.
Our main destination is the amazing Valley of the Geysers, located at an altitude of 4,300 m.a.s.l.. Here we find active geysers, whose waters reach temperatures above 86°C, creating a unique spectacle. In addition, we can admire the rock formation known as Elephant Head and explore the La Olla, Blue Lagoon and El Ojo geysers, each with surprising characteristics.
The experience is complemented by a moment of relaxation in the natural thermal pools, whose waters range between 40°C and 45°C. This oasis, surrounded by an impressive landscape, offers us a respite before continuing the tour.
At noon, we will enjoy a lunch carefully prepared by the residents of Calientes, with the possibility of purchasing local crafts and taking home a souvenir of this unique experience.
For those planning to visit this natural gem, it is important to consider that the best season is from April to December, thus avoiding the rains. It is essential to wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing, since the altitude of 4,300 m.a.s.l. requires preparation.
At 3:00 PM, we begin the return to Tacna, taking with us indelible memories of a day full of natural wonders and moments of tranquility.
